Thanks to everyone who came out and supported local documentary films at the New Parkway screening in Oakland and Roxie screening in San Francisco. Both were very successful events with engaged audiences and lively Q&As. Thanks to Jennifer Chien and the New Parkway for putting together and hosting Locally Grown Docs. It was great to share the stage with the Bay Area filmmakers who participated.
The Roxie Theater hosted our biggest screening in San Francisco. It was an honor to screen in a theater with such a rich cinematic history (hosting Kurosawa, Herzog, Siskel & Ebert, Waters and many more). We were very fortunate to have Oakland school teacher Abdul-Haqq Khalifah moderate our lively Q&A with ‘Originals’ Tim Monroe and Vanessa “DJ Agana” Solari Espinoza – who took a break from painting a mural in nearby Clarion Alley to join us. Meeting and talking with the passionate audience afterward made all the planning and work worthwhile.
